Townie
tow nee n. An individual, often under the age of 25, who resided in the city of Oberlin during high school.
There exists a scholarship giving any townie who went to Oberlin High School for their entire high school career and who attends Oberlin College a full tuition scholarship. There are many townies who go to Oberlin College (you can find most of them in the "Oberlin Townies Unite" group on thefacebook), and no, aside from skipping the part during first year where people learn their way around, going to college for them is no different from the experiences of outlanders.
The relationship between townies and the College is a tricky one. See town/gown relationships. Generally, anyone who lives in Oberlin and went to the college but did not attend high school in town is not considered a townie; those people are generally FTLs. If you live here but did not go to high school in Oberlin and are not academically tied to the college in any way, you are generally considered a townie.
