The Rathskellar

The Rathskellar (usually just called "The Rat") hasn't been a real dining hall since Spring 2002. Located in the basement of Wilder next to the Decafe, it currently serves as a campus restaurant where you can get slightly nicer food than other places. There isn't a ton of seating, and the food isn't that cheap, but you can spend flex and Obie$ here, and it has the nicest atmosphere on campus.

In the evenings they open the Rat up to serve as a study lounge, and during midterms and finals, they serve free snacks and free (crummy) coffee in the evenings. The free snacks and drinks during exams is one of the sweetest things that Oberlin does for its students, but they don't advertise it well because they only put out enough for a couple hundred people — if everyone knew about this and remembered to show up, it would be madness.

The general opinion of the Rathskellar by most Oberlin students can be summed up by a recent Oberlin Graduate: "What the frak is a Rat-cellar?" - Anon 2009
