[edit] About the Organization
The OECU was created in 1933, and now has offices in Cleveland, Fairview Park, Oberlin and Zanesville. The OECU is affiliated with Alliance One and KeyCorp, so there is no surcharge to use one of their ATMs.
Membership is open to students, alumni, employees, and retirees of schools in Ohio; people involved in individual education (e.g. tutors); people involved with 400+ select organizations; and the families of members. See the official site (link below) for a more detailed list.
The office has now begun offering FULL SERVICE. Cash is now available in the office, not just in the Office's ATM and the Wilder Hall ATM. This change became effective in May 2009.
In June 2010, the OECU moved to the new 55 East College Street complex, next to the Slow Train Cafe.
OECU offers a $25 bonus to anyone who either opens a new account on a member's recommendation or to a member for referring someone who opens a new account. Tell your friends!

[edit] Opinions
To me, credit unions are great in principle. However, the OhioEd credit union here has a lot of negatives. The biggest is the lack of decent banking hours -- even the central office has such scant business hours. Plus the office here is rather lacking in what you can do. You can use the ATM, but for other withdrawals, all you get is a cashiers check that you have to take across the street to one of the other banks. It's a hassle. I closed the account I had with the credit union after putting up with enough of this. --132.162.215.165 (4 Oct 2005)
I've never used the credit union, but I've noticed that their ATM in Wilder seems to almost always be out of order. I hear it charges a fee even for members of the credit union, also - but this might not be true. Tevi 03:22, 3 March 2007 (EST)
The ATM was out of order once last year that I remember. It does not charge members a fee. Like every other ATM OECU's charges people a fee if they don't have an account with the owner of the ATM. It has a step up over the other ATMs because it will give you 5s which you can take to the change machine and get laundry quarters.WAvegetarian (talk) (email) (contribs) 12:14, 13 August 2007 (EDT)
The employees of the bank have always been really nice to me and its nice to go pretty much anywhere and be able to get money out of an ATM account. Unfortunately, the hours of the office suck, so one needs plan accordingly. DavidHuck 02:00, 12 November 2007 (EST)
I've never had problems with their hours (which have been increased since the above comments were left, and are pretty much on par with the rest of the banks in town). Nor have I ever found the ATM to be broken. The staff in their office are great: extremely student-friendly, answered all my questions with a smile, and I've never had to wait in line. The only issue I've ever had is that they won't convert currency -- but seriously, how often do you need to do that? 132.162.77.152 18:54, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
