Furbies are electronic toys that resemble gremlins from the movie of the same name. A newly purchased Furby starts out speaking entirely Furbish, the unique language that all Furbys use, but are programmed to speak less Furbish and more English the more they "grow". Many people have reported supposed horror stories of furbies talking without batteries and growing to speak new languages. Some even argue that furbies can come after first years at night and violate their consent.
Furbies became the talk of Oberlin Confessional when a group of then first years (from the class of 2010) began expanding their simple prank of distributing fake money with a furby's photo pasted on the front, to the rest of the school. Random solicitors claimed that collecting enough of these dollars would secure one a prize like a PSP or an iPod.
Many students were drawn in by this trend and began taking photos of themselves with the furby dollars and mailing them to the according website. This resulted in
