FUSSERS

Fussers is Oberlin College's directory of students and faculty.

An abbreviated, fairly unextensive version of the directory can be found on the campus website. A much more robust version is located under the “Lookup/Fussers” tab of Blackboard.

As of the 2009–10 school year, Oberlin no longer distributes a print copy of the directory, instead making the information available solely online. According to the Office of Communications, this is "in an effort to save money, trees, and paper, and in accordance with Oberlin's institution-wide mandate to cut costs wherever possible.” [1]

Origins of the name

Known for decades as 'Fussers' the true entymology of the term may be lost to time. Professor emeritus Robert Longsworth, who taught the History and Structure of the English Language course, including the compilation of the ObieSpeak Dictionary once theorized it likely had to do with dating, i.e. looking up the number of your sweetheart over whom you were said to be 'fussing'.
