"Jake Brody huffs mad dong."

The man, the myth, the legend.

The phrase "Jake Brody Huffs Mad Dong" used to be inscribed all over the men's bathrooms, especially in King and Wilder. It was born in the North elevator in 2002 when one of the New York posse of marijuana dealers created an abbreviated version of what another friend was saying. "JBHMD!" he laughed, proceeding to carve the initials into the elevator door with his pocket knife. For a while Jacob was also rumored to blow dead bears. Before Jake Brody, it was Tom Yagoda who was accused of performing such vile acts, and after Jake Brody, the fad caught on more generally, and all kinds of campus persons have had this accusation made about them in anonymous bathroom graffiti -- even the Obertones. Whatever the variation, this all started in 2000-2001 when 'Tom Yagoda Blows Dead Bears' began appearing all over campus, mostly in bathrooms. There were rumors that Yagoda (OC'01)/his friends were doing this for some sort of publicity move, but those were never confirmed. As with the potato trays in Stevie, the real origins of this campus institution are not clear.

The graffiti has even spread to other cities (notably New York City) and has been cited as far off as Istanbul, Turkey.

Variants can be amusing: "Jake Brody houghs Mao Zedong," "Jake Brody plays mahjong," "David Bowie Writes Mad Songs"..., "Harry Potter Hufflepuff's mad Ron" - Harkness Bathroom, first floor.
