Art rental

At the beginning of every semester, students line up outside the museum to check out works of art to hang in their rooms. Some students camp out two days early to get a good spot in the line.

The rental fee is $5 for a semester, and each student may get two works of art.

Several hundred works are available, including pieces by famous artists such as Dalí, Picasso, Warhol, Man Ray, Jasper Johns, Joan Miró, Toulouse-Lautrec, and more.

The program was started in 1940 by then-museum-director Ellen Johnson.

In the 60+ years that the art rental program has been going on, not one piece has been lost or damaged. Starting in 2010, all pieces are receiving new frames, thanks to the Class of 1960.
