Archives
The College Archives was founded in 1966. Dedicated in 1974 in the memory of Miss Margaret Morfoot, the present Archives vault is located on the northwest side of the fourth floor of the Mudd Center, Room 420.
[edit] Mission Statement
- In 1966 the Board of Trustees established a College Archives to direct the administration's responsibilities to preserve the institution's "memory" and support the teaching mission. Today, the archives of the College comprise a unique body of materials containing information of administrative, legal, fiscal, and historical value to the institution. [1]
[edit] Perspectives
The Oberlin College Archive is a phenomenal place completely filled with dusty articles, pamphlets, photos, memos, papers, etc. al. The staff is (rightfully) anal about the handling of the material, but incredibly friendly, provocative, curious, and willing to help. They know where every thing is and often at least partially know the contents of each of the boxes... They have fairly limited hours (Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m.-12 noon. and 1:00-4:30 p.m.) but the archive room provides a quiet and comfortable place to delve into historical primary sources related to Oberlin.
